Following a barnstorming year in 1981, the Nashville Diamonds played one season as a professional soccer team in the American Soccer League. Playing matches in both North Nashville and Brentwood over the course of the year, the team closed up shop and left town in the following winter. This page, which is currently under construction, catalogs their short-lived existence. Much of this information was found via the archives of The Tennessean and The Nashville Banner.

(Much like the NASL of the time, the American Soccer League used a modified scoring system, awarding five points for a win and two for a draw. Teams were also eligible to earn up to three points for the amount of goals they scored. So, using Nashville’s 3-2 loss to Pennsylvania as an example, the Stoners took home eight points from that win, while Nashville finished with two.)
