NASHVILLE — The home-bound Nashville Diamonds took reigning American Soccer League champ Carolina down to the wire twice last night but to no avail, falling to the Lightning 2-1 in double overtime.
The Diamonds return home tonight when they take on the undefeated Georgia Generals at 7:35 p.m. The first 2,000 children entering the gates will receive a pair of Mitre shin guards.
The heartbreaking loss last night marked the seventh straight loss for the inexperienced squad after a season-opening victory over the Lightning, 2-0.
The victory for Carolina last night marked the Lightning’s second win over Nashville this season. Carolina claimed a 2-0 win a week ago in Charlotte.
