2-1 Win Helps Slickers Keep Hold on 1st Place

(Oklahoma City Daily Oklahoman, 08.14.82)

NASHVILLE — The Oklahoma City Slickers solidified their hold on first place in the American Soccer League standings Friday night with a 2-1 win over Nashville, the team they beat 9-0 last week at home.

The Slickers got unassisted goals in the first half by John Dolinsky and Joe Rausch. Nashville came back in the second half with a goal by Dave Strecker.

Nashville, 2-19-3, held up better than was the case last Sunday. In that game, the Diamonds were outshot by Oklahoma City 33-5. The Slickers led 19-14 in shots Friday.

The Slickers, now 15-6-3, have 123 points in the standings. Detroit, with 115, was idle Friday. The Express is at Carolina tonight.

The Slickers are at home Sunday at Taft Stadium against Carolina.

Slicker Tommy Alioto has been selected to play in the ASL All-Star game Wednesday in Rochester, N.Y. Alioto, a late selection, will take the place of Georgia’s Greg Willin, who is injured. Alioto joins teammates Rausch, Jeff Bourne and Phil Parkes on the squad.

The All-Stars will play the Rochester Flash in the All-Star game.
