Lightnin’ strikes quick on faltering Diamonds
(Nashville Banner, 08.07.82)
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Nashville Diamonds (2-17-3) ran their winless streak to 11 games Friday with a 3-1 loss here to the Carolina Lightnin’ (8-10-3)
After 60 minutes of shutout soccer, the Lightnin’ struck for two quick goals — both by Pat Fidelia — in a four minute period to take a 2-0 lead. Fidelia got his first on an unassisted effort following a corner kick, then took Redmond Lane’s pass in for the second.
Nashville sliced the margin to 2-1 when Michael Harderson rebounded a missed shot in the 87th minute, but Fidelia then assisted in David Pierce’s goal one minute later to ice the contest.
